Field Note #8 - When Images Become Doorways

field note Jul 28, 2026

We all inherit images and models that help us make sense of the world.

Some come through science, some through culture, some through spirituality. They shape not only what we think, but often how we move, perceive, and inhabit our own bodies.

Sometimes these images become so familiar that we forget they are images at all.

Yet every so often, another image appears—not asking us to believe it, but simply inviting us to experience the world through a different doorway.

Recently I've been exploring what happens when I relate to gravity not simply as an unquestioned law, but as a concept—an invitation to notice how different ways of perceiving might influence my embodied experience.

Recently, I have been inspired by a different sort of image, one that questions many beliefs. This is the is the idea of an inner sun within the Earth.

Whether this image describes physical reality isn't really the question I'm exploring.

What interests me is what happened when I allowed my body to move within it.

Something shifted.

My posture activated, energized.

My water-body was moving well and organized.

My footsteps became lighter.

Even my experience of the world felt lighter.

This has led me to a broader question.

Perhaps there are experiences we quietly sense but have never had words or images for. Without a concept to hold them, they can remain just beyond our awareness.

Then someone offers a different image—a different possibility—and something inside us recognizes it. Not as a belief to adopt, but as a felt resonance.

The image doesn't create the experience.

It becomes a doorway into something we were already capable of sensing.

This isn't an invitation to replace one model with another.

Nor is it about deciding which description of reality is ultimately correct.

It's an invitation to notice how the images we live within shape our experience, and to remain open to exploring them through the wisdom of the body itself.

Sometimes all it takes is a different image...

...and a willingness to step through the doorway it opens.

As always, I would love to hear how this goes for you,

Kimba
